The fact that I love to travel is nothing new. It is one of my many passions but one that is pretty high up there on the list. I’ve mentioned before that I consider myself a hopeless wanderer and I’ve been that way for as long as I can remember. The months that I felt ignited my wandering tendencies was when I studied abroad in Florence, Italy in college. Growing up I was dead set on studying abroad in Spain due to taking Spanish for x amount of years. When push came to shove though I landed in Italy, and I do not regret studying/living there one bit. It is the most beautiful country, and I’ve seen more of it than most people can ever say. Every weekend I had the luxury of wandering all around the country. Studying abroad made me realize how difficult it is for us to travel around the United States compared to traveling around Europe. I am grateful for the wonderful transportation that took me to many beautiful cities and witness gorgeous countrysides.
It is difficult for me to pick a favorite city I traveled to in Italy. I always find that I struggle picking favorites but have no problem stating what cities I didn’t enjoy. One area that made my favorites list was Cinque Terre. A few of my fellow study abroad classmates and I took a day trip up there and had the most exquisite day. The weather could not have been more perfect for hiking from town to town. The trail wraps along the cliffside overlooking the beautiful ocean. As we began to descend into the town of Vernazza I was blown away by the beauty and how blue the water appeared to be. It was mesmerizing; I couldn’t help but take a million pictures in hopes of capturing the town’s essence. For the rest of the hike, every new town blew me away. It felt as if I were walking in a postcard that I was going to send to my parents. I didn’t fully understand the fascination of Cinque Terre until I witnessed it myself. Each and every town has its little charm that you can’t help but fall in love with.
There are many beautiful sights to witness throughout Italy, but Cinque Terre is a must. You will be amazed by the beauty, the warm colors, and how each town hugs the ocean like a long time friend. For years to come it will be a day to remember.
