Golden Hour

Golden Hour

For as long as I can remember, the most at home I have ever felt has always been in Colorado. The mountains give me peace, comfort, and nostalgia, I can feel it throughout my entire being. I have never questioned that my home […]

Off the Grid

Off the Grid

As I mentioned in my 2017, A Year in Review post, I did quite a bit of traveling last year. I discovered the most amazing places around the East Coast. A highlight for sure was the trip we took over Thanksgiving.   A couple months […]

The Outdoors

The Outdoors

For as long as I can remember I have always dreamt about living in New York. As cliché as it sounds my New York influence was Friends, Seinfeld, Gossip Girl, and Sex and the City. When I decided to attend college on the west coast out in California it was still in my plan to move to New York after graduation. Of course, life doesn’t always work out the way it’s supposed.  When it has come to the major things in life that I have wanted, I have always found a way to make it happen. Living in New York was one of those moments. Since moving here, I have fallen more in love with the city and have changed as a person for the better. It has been an amazing experience so far, and I am so happy that I pursued this lifelong dream of mine.

Even though I live in one of the most populated cities in the world, I  do not associate myself with solely being a city girl. I grew up in a small town in the Midwest and often exposed to being outdoors. Towards the end of high school, I made the unexpected decision to graduate early and enroll in a three-month long wilderness excursion. Those three months changed my life forever, and I will be eternally grateful for that experience. The one thing I gained from living in the wilderness for three-months is my love for the outdoors. Growing up I always enjoyed being outside but I never really understood how beautiful and therapeutic nature could be. Over the years the outdoors have become a passion of mine to the point where, I know deep down that after I am done living in New York, I want to move to a place like Colorado where I am surrounded by mountains and the beautiful backcountry.

A few weeks ago I had a little weekend getaway with one of my roommates to upstate New York. It felt so nice to escape the city for the weekend. I had not left the city since Christmas, so I was starting to feel a little suffocated. The city is amazing, vibrant, and full of life, but sometimes you need to take a step back and breathe before jumping right back into the hustle and bustle of everyday life here. Being up in the mountains again felt amazing. I felt like I was alive again, and it made me miss being in the outdoors even more. This entire weekend I was exploring different places I would love to go backpacking and camping. Towards the end of my long Google search I decided I need to make my way up to Canada soon, specifically Alberta. The images I came across were breathtaking and made me long to witness them with my own eyes.

Until I’m able actually to plan a backpacking trip, I will be admiring these breathtaking views from the comfort of my Brooklyn apartment. Sooner or later I will find myself there, and will have pictures of my own to look back on fondly. As I’ve said before and will say for the rest of my life, I will never feel more at home than when I am in the mountains.
